Downtown Baltimore is among the sites being considered by the NAACP for its national headquarters.
CIty officials say the civil rights group has been scouting locations for months and a final decision could come in a matter of weeks.
The organization has long wanted to move out of the current headquarters in Northwest Baltimore, and originally planned to move to Washington D.C.
The high cost of such a move apparently scrapped that decision.
Officials with the Baltimore Development Corporation say the organization is looking at locations that will give them easy access to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, train service and amenities such as hotels and restaurants.
A site in Silver Spring is also reportedly under consideration.
BDC Director Phil Croskey says the NAACP board is expected to vote in the next couple of weeks and says the move would occur this year.
ABC2 was unable to reach officials with the civil rights group for a comment on this story.
