Elementary and middle school students in Maryland have jumped in their standardized tests scores, with big changes in Baltimore.
City and State officials made the announcement today at Abbottston Elementary School in Northeast Baltimore. Students at the elementary school have advanced 100 % on the maryland School Assessments. Baltimore students are no longer the lowest performing in the state on the test.
In grades three to eight, Reading test scores are up 72.4% compared to 67.6% last year. In Math, scores increased 63.5% last year scores were 55.6%. The head of City Schools Systems, Dr. Andres Alonso, says the scores are a sign schools are moving in the right direction. Dr. Alonso says he believes there are only a few school districts in the nation that have made the same sustained progress under the federal No
Child Left Behind.
