In Eleanor Thompson's seventy-seven years of life, she never had a wake up call like she did this morning.
When firefighters arrived at her apartment complex in
Arnold, smoke was pouring out of the third and fourth floors.
Thompson wasted no time getting away from the smoke. She walked down two flights of stairs on a cane with her sweatshirts, breathing machine, digital camera and her handbag.
Firefighters were able to evacuate the building and contain the three alarm fire quickly. No one was injured.
Thompson was grateful, and happy that she could still spend Mother's Day with family. She says that family comes first.
Thompson's son Terry picked her up to take her out to lunch. He says his mom has always been there for him when he needed her. He told us he is relieved his mother escaped the fire unharmed no one was hurt.
The sprinkler system and fire alarms both worked today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
