In Baltimore County, parents and neighbors are fighting to keep Sollers Point Technical School, in Turners Station around.
The County wants to either renovate the school at a cost of $96 million or rebuild Sollers and Dundalk High School at a new location for $110 million. That second plan calls for demolishing the current building and replacing it with a community center.
But residents said the former all African-American school has significant meaning to the community and needs to stay. Phyllis Seward of the
Friends of Sollers Point Voctech said, “There’s a lot of history there we produced doctors, astronauts, you name it. I mean, the whole gamut have come out of Turner Station community.”
The Baltimore County Office of Conservation is leaning toward rebuilding the schools. The issue now goes before the school board for a vote.
