Neighbors said it took just a matter of seconds for lightning, fierce winds and heavy rains to topple dozens of trees in the Rising Sun area.
It started with a loud thundering noise.
“Like a bang somebody busted a window or something a big sound," explained Raj Patel. Patel was inside Triangle Liquors with his employee Mark Broomell. “The rain was coming down you couldn't even see the other side of the road you know hail about the size of a softball," he said, “I looked away for one second and the window exploded glass coming by my head…a second later the power went off water coming in like a flood."
Meanwhile, about a half mile down the road, “Everything came through the garage door and blew through the house and we ran to the basement," said Patti Grayveal. “It was really scary,” added her son Cody, “because like you see everything and just like that it went all white - you couldn't see anything."
When the winds subsided, neighbors emerged to witness the destruction. Trees split in half, others completely uprooted. One fell across Conowingo Road blocking Route 1 traffic for hours. Thankfully a neighbor grabbed his chainsaw to hack away at one downed tree on Love Run Road, while state highway crews worked to clear Route 1.
Power was knocked out to the area. Resident said they were told it may be restored in two days.
