DIRTY DINING: Back for Seconds in Harford County

Reported by: Joce Sterman

Last Update: 5/22 9:28 am
We’re going back for a second helping of restaurant reports.  And this time, ABC2 News Investigator Joce Sterman is heading back to a few Harford County hot-spots to see if they've cleaned up their act since our dirty dining inspection uncovered the dirty details.

From finding a Mexican restaurant thawing food overnight, to a confrontation with a wing joint owner who was angry about our reports, Harford County was a hub of activity for dirty dining.  But we're back to see if the unhealthy habits we spotted in some of their restaurants have finally been stopped.

And based on the most recent reports, some of them have done better.  Hing Wah Carryout in Bel Air and Fast Eddie's Pit Beef in Fallston have stepped up to improve food safety.  They've had no critical violations since our last reports.

But not every establishment has upped its game.  At Denny's in Edgewood, where food temperature problems were a hot topic, we found more critical food violations with food at the wrong temp in the one major inspection that's happened since our visit.

My Three Sons in Jarrettsville has had four inspections since our story and we saw some signs they’re still slipping a bit.  Their reports show citations for critical food violations in three of those visits.

And at La Tolteca in Bel Air, where we showed you food left out at room temperature for hours, they're still working on food handling.  But they have had slightly better results.  They've had two inspections since our report and were only cited once for improperly cooling the food headed for your table.

In addition, two of the restaurants we confronted in Harford County have undergone major changes.  The Lighthouse Diner in Havre de Grace closed late last year, citing the economy. And at Wings-Things-n-More in Edgewood, the business was handed over to another owner, who says they're starting fresh.
