City Gets OK For Harbor Snow-Dumping

Last Update: 2/10 5:11 am

From the category of 'desperate times call for desperate action'...

Whether it's your driveway or main street, we're simply running out of room to put all this snow.  It's a particularly serious problem for Baltimore City.

City Department of Transportation spokeswoman Adrienne Barnes says crews are dumping snow in several parks and parking lots around the city, including Druid Hill Park and Pimlico racetrack.

Barnes also says the city has received permission from the Maryland Department of the Environment to dump snow in the Inner Harbor, but has not done so yet.

The city is relying largely on private contractors driving front-end loaders to remove snow. She says the removal efforts were authorized because the amount of snow became "overwhelming" -- especially with another foot of snow possible.
