Environment Maryland is calling on Maryland lawmakers to encourage transit-oriented development and help pay for Chesapeake Bay pollution cuts by requiring local governments to levy stormwater management fees.
The environmental group released its environmental agenda on Wednesday as Maryland lawmakers opened the legislative session in Annapolis.
The group also says lawmakers should fully fund the Chesapeake Bay 2010 Trust Fund to provide incentives for cutting bay pollution and require farmers and lawn care companies to report how much fertilizer and insecticide they use.
The group says it also plans to release a report on Thursday showing how much pollution would be reduced from a transit-heavy approach to development.
