Baltimore county's oldest school building will be replaced.
School officials and the Governor broke ground for a new George Washington Carver High School today.
Right now Carver is a performing arts and technical high school.
The new school will be set up to give students greater opportunities in career fields.
For the performing arts students the new school will give them something sorely needed at the school.
A new stage.
‘This new theater will give the carver students the venue they need to properly show off their talent and a new atrium will allow of the display of the students new art and sculpture.’ Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith told a crowd during the groundbreaking ceremony.
County officials say the new Carver High should be open by the 2011 school year.
Two more new high schools are also planned for Baltimore County.
The original Carver High was built in the 1940's.
