Eating Disorders are something tens of thousands of women face. On Thursday experts will discuss the social stigma society has when it comes to being thin. This comes after Ralph Lauren fired Filippa Hamilton.
The company claims she is too big to fit into their sample clothes. Hamilton is 5'10 and 120 pounds. She wears a size four. Hamilton was fired in April, but said nothing about it until now.
"I started when I was 15-years-old. My weight was the same, approximately. I'm 120 pounds now and I was maybe 119 before so it's the same so I'm shocked," said Filippa Hamilton, a model.
Hamilton said a recent photograph of her, circulating in Japan showed her body had been altered enough to make her head look too large for her body. Hamilton said that made her go public about the firing.
Ralph Lauren admitted that release of the altered photograph was a mistake and removed the picture from circulation.
Representatives from the Center For Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt will hold a special "Love Your Tree" event at the Bryn Mawr School. It starts at 10:30 Friday morning. The school is located at 109 West Melrose Avenue.
