The American Geriatrics Society applauds the efforts of Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee to ensure Americans access to quality and affordable healthcare.
The Senator's comprehensive "Call to Action, Health Reform 2009" plan was released on Thursday. It outlines numerous initiatives designed to provide appropriate and cost-effective care, not only to the rapidly growing number of older Americans, but to all Americans.
The AGS looks forward to working with Senator Baucus, Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Ma), the Obama Administration and other policy makers who share a commitment to meaningful healthcare reform that addresses critical failures in the current healthcare system.
"We are heartened by Senator Baucus' proposal, his dedication to ensuring that healthcare reform is swift and comprehensive and benefits the young and old. We like his willingness to work in a bipartisan manner to effect needed reforms," said AGS President John Murphy.
AGS said the nation can no longer afford to neglect the health of its citizens.
