Police in Howard County came across a house with 28 cats and a guinea pig inside.
Police were called to the home Wednesday, after a neighbor hadn't seen the people who live in the home for days and smelled an odor from the house.
Once inside police found an elderly woman inside and took her to the hospital for observation.
A veterinarian was called in to evaluate the 17 cats, 11 kittens and the one guinea pig inside the home. Ten of those cats required further treatment.
The owner of the animals was not home when police arrived, but has agreed to sign over most of the animals to Howard County Animal Control.
