Local organizations that help veterans say a national financial planning corporation has been instrumental in helping raise funds for programs. RBC Wealth Management has offices in Westminster, Annapolis and Rockville.

"It kind of blows me away that the company has this kind of commitment to our veterans," says RBC Financial Advisor Marcus Hull, who chairs the company's Veterans Initiative.

For Hull, the support is a personal endeavor. He served in combat with the 75th Ranger regiment and now works to raise awareness for veterans issues.

Through the Veterans Initiative, Hull and his team help fundraise for several non-profits that helps connect vets to services.

"Theres a lack of understanding of what resources are available to accomplish what needs," he says.

In Maryland, RBC has sponsored events like Hockey for Heroes, a 24-hour tournament in Annapolis, as well as Paws4People's Paws4Vets program.

Last year, RBC helped raise enough money to train seven Paws4People service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD and other issues.

"Without the generosity of corporations like RBC, we could not do our work and help veterans," says Cathy Demeroto with Paws4People.

In Montgomery County, the Veterans Safe Haven program is addressing homelessness by putting veterans into their own apartments.

Organizer Leah Lyons says RBC chips in by helping buy everything from kitchenware to furniture to smooth out the big transition.

"We're able to make sure that their whole apartment is furnished," she says, "so they're not moving into an empty shell.

Next, RBC Wealth Management has a role in sponsoring a Memorial Day golf tournament at Upperco's Piney Branch Golf Club.

The tournament is benefiting the Three Rangers Foundation and takes place on Thursday, May 25.
