A Maryland doctor called teen depression and suicide a "serious epidemic." A recent rise in depressed and suicidal behaviors has the American Academy of Pediatrics making changes.
The AAP is advising pediatricians to identify and help teens at risk for suicide. The group wants pediatricians to screen patients to suicidal thoughts and risk factors, like bullying.
The CDC says suicide is the second leading cause of death in teens age 15-19 and the third leading cause of death in children 10-14.
Dr. Kim Cass, the chair of pediatrics at Upper Chesapeake Health joined Kelly Swoope on ABC2's In Focus to discuss warning signs and treatment.
