Maryland teachers have a 25 page manual that covers how to treat transgender and gender non-conforming students.

The latest version is from October of last year, and it's extensive.

The guide starts by explaining that schools need guidelines because LGBT students often don't feel safe in the classroom.

The manual covers vocabulary, including words like gender expression, transition and cisgender.

The guidelines then go into detail about how to prevent discrimination, including which bathrooms and locker rooms students should use.

Throughout the manual, the guidelines stress the importance that students feel safe and supported and that teachers act in the best interest of the child.
