How to avoid injuries from fireworks this Fourth of July

No matter how many warnings are on the box of fireworks, people will end up in the emergency room this Fourth of July weekend.

Last year, nearly 300 people were injured messing with fireworks. Seventy-three percent of those injuries happened around Independence Day.

The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System shows hand injuries are by far the most common.

 Dr. Keith Degalman with the Curtis National Hand Center at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital shared tips on how to prevent such injuries.
