Donating bone marrow: why it's so important

You've probably given blood before, or maybe you've even given a family member one of your kidneys. But donating bone marrow is probably not the first thing you think of when someone mentions the word 'donate.'

Every four minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer. But all hope isn't lost -- those lives could be saved with a bone marrow transplant.

Gift of Life Marrow Registry is determined to give everyone battling blood cancer a second chance at life.

But they need your help. You can register to become a bone marrow donor and possibly save a life.

Anchor Kelly Swoope sat down with Alison Iovino, a former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader whose life was transformed after becoming a bone marrow donor.
