A group of medication safety advocates say the Food and Drug Administration isn't doing enough to warn people about possible debilitating side-effects associated with a popular class of antibiotics.
The drugs are called Fluoroquinolones and are known under the brand names, Levaquin, Cipro and Avelox.
They're approved for use for very serious infections.

Our investigation found the FDA is aware of a potentially crippling side effect called mitochondrial toxicity, but has yet to act on it.
"We want it out there and we're not going away until we get change,” said Terry Aston. “These are serious drugs with serious side effects and that needs to be stopped. People's lives are being stolen from them, from taking an antibiotic."
