3 Maryland officers killed in the line of duty this year

In 2016, 69 police officers have been killed in the line of duty throughout the country.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, that's a one percent increase over last year.

July has been the deadliest month of the year. A total of 18 officers have lost their lives this month, which includes that five murdered in Dallas and the three ambushed in Baton Rouge.

Gunfire is the leading cause of line of duty deaths this year. Thirty-two officers have been deliberately shot in 2016. 

This year, three Maryland officers were also shot and killed in the line of duty. Deputy Mark Logsdon and Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey were with the Harford County Sheriff's Department.

Officer Jacai Colson served on the Prince George's County Police Department. He was mistakenly killed by friendly fire during an attack on a police station.

Texas has the the most line of duty deaths this year, with 12. New York follows with 11.
