Study shows more sleep can help you burn off fat

What are the benfits of sleeping more?

It's time to get more sleep. There are several health benefits linked to a good night's rest.

A new study shows more sleep may mean less fat. The study looked at the metabolic changes that occur when you don't get enough sleep. It can alter your sense of hunger and make you eat more.

Those who slept more also lost more fat than muscle.

Sleep is also linked to your immune system. Getting better sleep might help you catch fewer colds.

When it comes to your kids, a new study shows children are not getting enough sleep.

How much sleep your child gets really depends on their age. Newborns and babies up to 12 months should be getting between 14 to 16 hours of sleep.

Parents should work to establish healthy sleep habits during this time. One to 6-year-olds need 10 to 14 hours a day. Seven to 12-year-olds need anywhere from 10 to 11 hours a day.

And 12 to 18-year-olds should be getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a day.
