Houston, Texas -
Women have been taking it for decades.
Now researchers in Texas are working on a birth control pill for men.
Others have tried but failed because of harmful side effects.
But doctors at Baylor College of Medicine say their pill is different.
Other pills have targeted hormones, but JQ1 targets germ cells.
So far in mice, there have been no side effects.
One researcher told us, "I'll tell you what it didn't do, which is very important, it did not affect the libido of the animals. "
But, he cautions, "This is only over a one-year period of time and men might be taking this for many years, even decades."
Doctors at Baylor say clinical trials could start in five years.
