Pokemon Go increases U.S. step count

Pokemon Go is a phenomenon that took the world by storm this summer and it turned out to be an unintentional fitness app.

A new study from Microsoft Research found frequent users took 26 percent more steps than they did before playing.

The app added 144 billion steps to U.S. physical activity. The most drastic changes were seen in less active users, but researchers caution that interest would need to remain high for the positive impacts to be long-lasting.
