It was supposed to be the end of an era; women who were finished having children could opt for a more permanent solution, the Essure device.

Unfortunately, for thousands of women, it was the beginning of a new set of problems: lifelong health issues with no reasons or relief.

Kimberly Hughes admits some of her memories with her son Kevin aren't as clear as they used to be.

"My health, it's never going to be the same, cognitive problems, the memory issues," she said.

Hughes remembers when the health problems started. She said it was in 2009 with the Essure birth control device

"I know I was done having children," she said. "I was looking for something permanent."

Essure's advertised as the only permanent birth control you can get with a non-surgical procedure.

"It was billed as extremely safe, much safer than anything else," Hughes said. "They made it sound like a miracle."

The company's website said it can be done in about 10 minutes in your doctor's office and within 45 minutes most women go home and return to work in the next day or two.

Hughes said that none of that was true for her and that was just the beginning.
