Another sample has tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria at Prince George's County Hospital, health officials said.
The presence of the bacteria pseudomonas was discovered in at least one patient care area outside of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
The deadly bacteria was first found earlier in August in the water pipes after two newborns died in the NICU. An infectious disease expert is investigating whether the deaths are linked to pseudomonas. A number of babies were transferred out of the NICu as a precaution.
Meanwhile, hospital officials are working to identify where the bacteria came from by running continuous water sampling and testing. Crews were out Wednesday to disinfect the plumbing infrastructure for the entire hospital.
