When you're on vacation this summer or taking the kids to the pool, you don't have to take a break from eating healthy.
With a little extra preparation, you can keep up with your healthy diet.
Jason Bosley-Smith, a nutrition coordinator with the Maryland Athletic Club says, just because you're on the go, don't think you can't pack the perishables.
He says, "Take a cooler bag with them to carry it through the day... The ones with the freezer packs inside, you can take then some perishable things like hummus for example to eat with the vegetables or other perishable types of food items."
Protein bars are another healthy snack to keep around. Just make sure it's not packed with sugar.
"So we're really looking for bars that are whole foods that have higher fiber content, ones that have 4 grams of fiber or more is a good thing to look for," says Bosley-Smith.
And don't underestimate the power of water. "If you know you're going to be running around a little bit, make sure you have plenty of water you can drink through the day to stay well hydrated."
Your smartphone can also be a helpful tool when you're eating on the go. Bosley-Smith says, "There are a variety of apps that are out there that you can use, look it up quick on the phone, do a restaurant search in the local area and find something that has healthier food options on the menu."
