Gel manicures can damage your skin

An alert for people who get their nails done. Gel manicures dry instantly and you can go up to two weeks with no chipping.

Denise McLaughlin used to get them, but then noticed that her hands started looking worse.

"You see these brown spots here and here and here, this is all from the UV light in those lamps."

The lamp contains the same ultraviolet light that's used in tanning beds, which have been associated with an increased risk of skin cancer.

The nail industry says the light is the same, but they say the strength of the light is different.

Dermatologists say to protect yourself, wear sunscreen on your hands when you go for a gel manicure.
