The Great Baltimore Medical Center will now be the site of the Ehlers-Danlos Society Center for Research and Clinical Care.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrom affects 1 in 5,000 people in the U.S. each year.

It's a rare syndrome that affects connective tissue, primarily in the skin, joints and blood vessel walls. In severe cases it can be deadly.

"No physician, nurse or clinician can know everything and it takes people specialized in a rare or less common disease to really be able to deliver the kind of care to every patient, every time," said GBMC Healthcare System CEO John Chessare, M.D.
