Code Orange issued for Baltimore area

In this particular instance, we aren't talking about a threat to homeland security.  Instead, it's a warning that your health could be at risk due to weather conditions and air quality.

With a heat index of 86 degrees and unhealthy air quality expected today, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen is urging caution for Baltimore City residents, especially members of “sensitive groups.”

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) issued a Code Orange air quality alert for today.

During Code Orange days, members of “sensitive groups,” including those with heart/lung disease, asthma, children and older adults, may experience health effects, although the general public is unlikely to be affected.

“We want to make sure all Baltimoreans are extra cautious and remember to stay cool and hydrated," said Dr. Wen. "With Code Orange alert, please limit outdoor activities, especially if you have asthma or lung disease.”
