Back to School Means More than Clothes and Shoes For Your Kids

Back to School Health Check List

It's August, and many parents are getting kids ready to go back to school. One of the most important steps is making sure kids have the proper immunizations.

The combination Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough vaccine, the Polio vaccine and the M-M-R vaccine for measles and mumps, as well as the chickenpox vaccine are necessary. They should be given to children before their sixth birthday.

Pediatricians recommend that parents keep track of their child's immunizations. And federal law requires all vaccine providers give parents a vaccine information statement.

Parents should check the Centers for Disease Control's website to see what vaccines are required by their state.
