BALTIMORE - We have all heard it before it before. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. But is it true? Yes! You can ask registered dietician Krystal Register from Wegmans. She was a guest on Good Morning Maryland at 9:00 to talk about the benefits of apples. She also brought a great recipe for Apple Waldorf Salad.
Scientific studies suggest eating apples on a regular basis may help prevent certain diseases and improve your overall health. Apples have no fat, cholesterol or sodium, and contain small amounts of potassium, which may promote heart health, help maintain healthy blood pressure and a healthy weight.

The recipe is below.
Apple Waldorf Salad
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3/4 cup plain lowfat yogurt
1/2 cup apple cider
5 medium Granny Smith or Cortland apples
3/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
1 stalk celery, diced small
1/2 cup Emerald glazed walnuts, chopped rough
Combine mayonnaise, yogurt and cider in large bowl. Chop apples, leaving skin on, into medium dice; mix with dressing. Fold in dried cranberries, celery and walnuts. Serve immediately or chilled.
