A growing number of hospitals and doctors' offices go digital

NEW YORK, NY - America may be a technology-driven nation. But so far efforts to get our health records into the digital age have fallen short. A new study says there are still many bugs to work out.

The Bipartisan Policy Center says a growing number of hospitals and doctors' offices are going digital. But the center says the problem is what happens to that information from there. The study says there has been little progress getting the computer systems to talk to one another.

That keeps them from exchanging data -- like financial companies do. It also means it will likely be slow going to get to the point where, for example, information can be shared among your doctors if they are in different practices or if they practice in a different hospital from where you might have surgery.
