A total of 920 people have died of an overdose in Maryland between January and June of 2016, outpacing last year's number by 319

The Maryland Department of Health and Hygiene released the report this week. Back in January, the health department issued a warning about fentanyl and repeated the concern with the report's release.

Fentanyl is an opiod that is more potent than heroin and sometimes added to drugs or replace the drugs altogether.
