National award winning humor writer gives back to The Catholic High School of Baltimore

BALTIMORE - Michele Wojciechowski or Wojo remembers her days as a student at The Catholic High School of Baltimore.  Today she is talking to students about her accomplishments as an author.

Wojo is giving back with a comedy night event with proceeds benefiting Catholic High.

"Remember when you start to do well.  Give back because I have a lot of good memories of being here and it helped form me as a young woman and I think it is important to come full circle," said Michele Wojciechowski, Author.

Wojo released her first book, "Next Time I move, They'll Carry Me Out In A Box."  She's part of a comedy event, "Heaven Help Us." She is launching her new book to raise money to renovate the  chemistry lab and create a new science prep room for teachers.

Ticket sales will go toward a matching grant Catholic High received to renovate some of its science facilities.  A science prep room will be named after Wojo's mother. She was also a Catholic High graduate.

"I said use the money where you need it.  They talked about needing to revamp the chemistry lab and building the first ever prep room.  They approached me about naming it after my mom and that touches me because I miss her everyday.  The most difficult part of writing this book as exciting as this has been is that  she is not here," said Wojo.

Educators at Catholic High could not be happier for the financial support.

"Our chemistry lab had not been renovated since 2001.  It was in desperate need of renovating and in addition to that we have a stem program.  Science is one of the cornerstones of our stem program so any improvements we make does affect our stem program," said Dr. Barbara Nazelrod, President of the Catholic High School of Baltimore.

Wojo is an inspiration for students. She is teaching them to pursue their dreams and to always give back.

"I think it's really great.  I want to be a writer when I am older so I think its great to see somebody do what they want to do and make a career out of it," said Elena Sachs, a Junior.

The event Heaven Help Us will be held on Saturday September 15th.  Doors open at 7pm.  Showtime is 8pm.  The cost is $20 per person.  The event will be held at The Catholic High School of Baltimore. It is located at 2800 Edison Highway in Baltimore.
