TOWSON, Md. - The Baltimore County Board of Education this week approved the attendance boundary for the new Mays Chapel Elementary School.
The new boundary will include students currently attending Padonia International, Pinewood, Pot Spring and Warren elementary schools. Next month families of eligible children in the new boundary line will get letters letting them know about the new school assignment.
Students entering fourth or fifth grade in August and their siblings will have the option of enrolling at Mays Chapel or staying at their current school through fifth grade.
An interactive mapping tool will allow parents and students to enter an address and find out where their district will be.
“Now we can move ahead with all the plans we have to welcome students, answer parents’ questions and prepare for a great opening day in August,” Steve Coco, the school’s principal, said in a release. “It’s an exciting time to be opening a new school in Baltimore County, and I know it will be an exciting experience for our new students and their families.”
Coco plans to hold a series of parent information sessions for families to meet him and other staff members and learn about the new Mays Chapel school.
The school and districting of it have been the center of controversy for years .
