Anne Arundel County music teacher wins award

Music teacher Michael Miller has been teaching music since 1990 and has spent the last 15 years of his career teaching at Old Mill High School.

His hard work is getting noticed. Miller was named the 2014 recipient of the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award. He is one out of 20 people who have received this annual award.

The award is named after Agnes Meyer, who is the wife of Eugene Meyer, former publisher of The Washington Post.

This award acknowledges, “Teachers who have shown initiative, creativity, and an exceptional degree of professionalism in teaching.”  But that’s not all; each winner receives $3,000 along with their award.

Like the past recipients of this award, Miller has contributed to teaching through multiple initiatives. One of his efforts brought the only high school steel drum band to the county. His love and appreciation for music has helped cultivate the way he influences his students.

Miller feels fortunate to have received such honors amongst all of his accomplishments.
