Woman, 86, sexually assaulted in Columbia after accepting ride from stranger

COLUMBIA, Md. - An 86-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Columbia after accepting a ride from a stranger, according to a release from the Howard County Police Department.

At about 2:45 p.m. on June 15, the woman was waiting at a bus stop in the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way. A man she did not know pulled up to the stop and offered her a ride, according to the release.

“The woman reported she got into the car and began directing the man where to drive when he turned into an empty business complex parking lot in the 10600 block of Little Patuxent Parkway,” according to the release. “The woman reported that the suspect parked, pulled her from the car and sexually assaulted her in nearby woods.”

The man drove off and the woman walked to a gas station where a customer called 911. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

Police were unable to obtain specific details about the suspect. The woman could only describe him as a “possibly a black male in his 40s, driving a dark convertible sedan with light interior, possibly tan or beige,” according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-313-STOP.
