Suspect in Howard County police station bomb threat identified

Authorities have charged a 34-year-old man they say caused the evacuation of police station in Howard County.

Benjamin Parson of 6301 Eastern Star Way in Clarksville was charged with one county of making a false statement regarding a destructive device and one count of threatening arson.

Officials say that Parsons walked into the Howard County Southern District station at approximately 4:40 p.m. Sunday and threatened officers -- claiming he had explosive devices in and around the station.

Parsons was taken into custody as the building was evacuated. Surrounding businesses and buildings were also evacuated.

"We take all threats very seriously. Anytime that any of our officers or our personnel are threatened, we take that very seriously," said Mary T. Phelan, Public Information Officer with the Howard County Police Department.

Howard County emergency crews set up shop just blocks from the station, a mobile location allowing them to investigate the threat made against their department.

Police wrapped up the search Sunday evening and said no explosives were found.
