At a time when Glen and Linda White were reaping the benefits of retirement and giving dance lessons in their Laurel home, neighbors say they welcomed one of their sons home from Florida, and trouble seemed to follow him.

"I think he had a court date yesterday, and he didn't show up for it.  It's on the Internet.  They bonded him for like $20,000.  So they probably put the bond up," said a neighbor, Jeff Phares.

Howard County Police said a welfare check at the home after the couple failed to show up for a meeting led to a gruesome discovery.

"Preliminarily, it appears that the father was killed as a result of being stabbed and that the mother was killed as a result of blunt force trauma,” said Sherry Llewellyn of the Howard County Police Department.

Police quickly determined 30-year old Craig White was the prime suspect, and they arrested him after spotting his car in Columbia later that same evening.

He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, and assault. Police said they found Glen White dead in a bedroom, and Linda White dead in the basement.

Court records show White was facing robbery, assault and theft charges dated back to late July.

"I knew recently there had been some undercover cops out here, like three weeks ago, then there was helicopters and stuff so something was going on up here and unfortunately this is what happened," Phares said.
