COLUMBIA, Md. - Why did he do it?
That's the question Howard County police are wrestling with tonight after they say 19-year-old Darion Marcus Aguilar took a cab Saturday to the Mall in Columbia and walked around for about an hour before approaching the Zumiez store.
It was there, police said, that Aguilar used a 12-gauge shotgun to kill two employees before turning the gun on himself.
Police say they are still investigating the connection between the shooter and his victims. But, investigators made it very clear that right now they can find nothing to suggest a romantic relationship.
Family and friends are just as surprised as anyone about this incident.
"Darion is a good kid," said Ellis Cropper, Aguilar's friend. "Don't know what happened, he just got a promotion at work, he was just going to start school next semester."
The shooter did leave behind a journal in which he expressed a general unhappiness with his life, but investigators still don't know exactly what set him off.
