Jessup inmate charged with trying to hire hit man to kill ex-girlfriend's boyfriend

JESSUP, Md. - A Howard County Detention Center inmate has been charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend and the boyfriend’s mother.

Police were tipped off that inmate Bernard Perez-Garcia was looking for someone to commit the murder. He was being held at the detention center for federal immigration violations, according to a release from Howard County police.

An undercover detective posing as a prospective "hit man" met with Perez-Garcia at the jail, the release states.

“Perez-Garcia advised that he wanted two people on the outside killed,” the release states. “He told the detective he wanted the case to look like a robbery at a store owned by the victims in Langley Park.”

Police believe the motive was "strictly domestic-related."

Perez-Garcia gave the undercover detective a description of the boyfriend’s car and said that payment would be settled after the murder.

Perez-Garcia remains in the Howard County Detention Center on no bond.
