LAUREL, Md. - Howard County police have arrested four people in connection with last week's shooting death of a Laurel man; a case in which investigators believe was drug-related
Police said the following people are facing charges following the murder of 24-year-old Russell Rowe:
Desmick Jermario Lewis, 22, of the 7100 block Talisman Lane in Columbia;
Amanda Nicole McAdoo, 18, of the 9500 block of Park Ave. in Laurel;
Lauren Elizabeth Maready, 18, of the 12800 block of Lime Kiln Road in Highland;
Taylor King Pepe, 19, of the 8300 block of Sand Cherry Lane in Laurel.
Police said officers responded at 10 p.m. Jan. 23 to the 9400 block of Sewall Ave. following a report from a resident that said that a pick-up truck had hit a tree in front of his home.
Police responded and located Rowe, of Main Street in Laurel in the driver's seat, alone in the vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was flown to Shock Trauma in critical condition before he died Jan. 26.
A witness told police that he saw Rowe's vehicle turn in front of him quickly before he collided with a tree. He said he saw a woman and a man with a handgun standing near the scene of the collision before they fled.
Police searched Rowe's vehicle and found a baggie containing Oxycodone and his cell phone, which contained multiple text messages between him and one of the suspects arranging a meeting to buy drugs from Rowe.
Police then linked the other suspects to the incident, as well as a vehicle. Detectives believe the four suspects planned to rob Rowe for the Oxycodone.
Lewis is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault, handgun violations and reckless endangerment. He is being held on no bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
McAdoo, Maready and Pepe are currently charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, handgun violations and reckless endangerment.
The attempted murder charges for McAdoo, Maready and Pepe are expected to be modified to murder charges since Rowe's death, police said.
Pepe is being held on $250,000 bond at the Howard County Detention Center. McAdoo and Maready were arrested in Pennsylvania and are awaiting extradition.
