Ellicott City man pleads guilty in stabbing death of Howard County blogger

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - A 20-year-old  man from Ellicott City pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of a popular Howard County businessman and blogger.

At a hearing before Howard County Circuit Court Judge Timothy McCrone Friday morning, Jason Anthony Bulmer admitted his role in the May 10, 2013 death of Dennis Lane. Bulmer is one of two co-defendants in the case, with the other being Morgan Lane Arnold, the victim’s daughter,

Prosecutors said Bulmer and Arnold planned the killing weeks in advance. Lane's daughter left the sliding glass door in the basement unlocked so that Bulmer could slip inside the house early that morning to commit the crime.

When officers arrived at the home, they discovered Lane dead and the suspects sitting together in a nearby upstairs bedroom.mThey say Bulmer's hands and clothing were covered with blood.

According to a statement of facts from the case, Bulmer and Arnold planned on running away together. Bulmer admitted he killed Lane because Arnold asked him to do so. The pair, who met while they were students at Mount Hebron High School, first began dating in November 2012.

At sentencing, May 29, prosecutors will drop two counts of conspiracy to commit murder – one for Lane and the other for Lane's significant other, Denise Geiger.

Arnold, who was 14 at the time of the killing, is still awaiting trial on similar charges.
