SAVAGE, Md. - Howard County Police are on the lookout for drunk drivers this holiday weekend.
Saturday night officers arrested six drivers for driving under the influence at a checkpoint on southbound Route 1 betweeen Howard Street and Gorman Road in Savage.
Over 1700 vehicles passed through the checkpoint which was staffed by Howard County officers and Maryland State Police. Drivers who passed through the checkpoint were given information about driving under the influence.
The Howard County Department of Police continues to use Sobriety Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols as a means of combating Drinking and Drugged Drivers. Checkpoints conducted by Howard County Police are part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce Campaign and are funded in part by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
Police remind citizens to always designate a sober driver or refrain from drinking alcohol if they will be driving. If you see a suspected drunken driver on the road, call 911.
