A 10-week-old dog was found in a plastic storage container and left for dead in Columbia, police said.

The Howard County 911 Center received a call around 4 p.m. on March 25 from a resident who found a container in a grassy area of a neighborhood on Braeburn Road. The caller said the lid was drilled with holes and there was an emaciated puppy inside. She said that the puppy could not stand or move.

The caller reported the container had been placed at some point in the afternoon. An animal control officer responded and took the dog to an emergency clinic.

Veterinarians said the dog appeared to be a 10-week-old brindle put bull. They said the dog was extremely malnourished, had open wounds and missing fur, and was covered in urine and feces.

The vets administered immediate medical care and reported that the puppy, nicknamed "Eddy," has been responding well to treatment. The shelter has already received requests to adopt the dog once he completes his lengthy process.

Howard County Animal Control is seeking information about the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Animal Control at 410-3132780 or email animalcontrol@howardcountymd.gov.
