ELKRIDGE, Md. - Police have arrested five men for manufacturing meth in a Elkridge Holiday Inn Express hotel room.
The Howard County Police Department and the Howard County Fire Department found a possible meth lab inside their hotel room.
Investigators say someone tipped off police a little after 10:30pm Monday night after smelling a strong odor coming from the fourth floor of the hotel in the 6000 block of Marshalee Drive.
Officers knocked on the door and three men were inside the room. A fourth men showed up and officers arrested all four of them. Another man, who had been staying in the room, was found walking in the parking lot. He was also arrested.
The following men were arrested:
- Josiah David Marin, 23, 466 Old Church Rd., Swansboro, N.C.
- Forrest Derrick Rhoades, 34, HC 61 Box 298, Sallisaw, Okla.
- Joshua Wade Matthews, 33, RR 2 Box 57A-3, Sallisaw, Okla.
- Amos Joel Martin, 20, 202 s. Water Street, Mesick, Mich.
- Spencer Allen Smith, 22, 738 E. Water Street, Lock Haven, Pa.
Officers and hazmat moved in and told guests on the fourth floor as well as guests in the room above and below the suspects' room, that they had to get leave. Guests were allowed back in their rooms a few hours later.
ABC2 News was first on the scene overnight Tuesday and witnessed multiple police cruisers as well as fire trucks that were still on the scene.
The DEA, which has meth lab specialists, has also been contacted to help with the investigation.
Detectives believe the methamphetamine was going to be used by the men who were traveling through the area for work and couldn't find meth locally.
