The robbers, a man and a woman, showed up in the 400 block of Linwood Avenue in Bel Air on Thursday morning and casually walked across the street, opened the unlocked front door and disappeared inside as if they owned the place.

As news of the home invasion spread, neighbors in homestead village say it won't be that easy if there's a next time.

"I've been talking to my neighbors,” Larry Lyons said. “I had two guns in my safe in the basement and I went down and loaded the .380 and I put the .357 in my room so I was scared."

Det. Sgt. Jim Lockard of the Bel Air Police Department says the robbers marched upstairs and held the elderly couple and their caregiver at gunpoint.

"He was demanding jewelry and cash,” Lockard said. “The jewelry that he was able to remove from the house including watches, rings (and) necklaces, and there was some silverware taken and about $900 in cash."

The total value of the stolen loot is as much as $50,000.

It's almost as if the robbers expected a big pay day.

"The police seemed to have some lead on who they thought it might be and they haven't told us any more than that," said Dave Price, who lives across the street from the victims.

While there may be nothing random about the crime, the victims' neighbors aren't taking any chances.

Plenty of people spotted the suspects, described as a black male who stands six feet and weighs 230 pounds and a white female who is five foot two weighing about 140 pounds, both in their 30s, and if they return here, they say they'll be ready for them.

"You bet.  I'm 76.  I probably couldn't do much if he was pretty strong, but I could give him a struggle," Lyons said.

Suspects fitting that same description may be responsible for similar home invasion robberies in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.
