Five lanes apparently weren't enough as a driver pulled his car off of the Baltimore Beltway onto northbound I-95 on Thursday where he and another motorist vied for the same lane.

Over the next 15 miles, aggressive actions left no room for words as the two jockeyed for position as they travelled down the highway until the 15 minutes of maddening mayhem ended setting the stage for a physical confrontation.

"The victim pulls over on the shoulder on 95 and is rear-ended by the suspect,” said Elena Russo of the Maryland State Police. “They get out of the vehicle. A fight ensues. The next thing you know, the suspect jumps back in his vehicle and allegedly runs over the victim and takes off. So this is a hit-and-run crash with an assault."

State police say the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was left for dead next to his blue, four-door Toyota.

"The victim was transported by medevac to Shock Trauma,” said Russo. “At this point, he's still receiving medical treatment and we're really trying to work with him and other witnesses to figure who this man was who did this to him."

Meanwhile, investigators are trying to identify a suspect, and that's where you come in.

"We're really asking the public right now to help us identify this suspect,” said Russo.“If they say that champagne-colored Nissan Maxima right around the 2:30, 3 in the afternoon hour pulled over on 95 and maybe they witnessed this altercation, please call police."

The assault happened on the shoulder of I-95 just south of MD 543 at the 79-mile marker in Belcamp, and state police say that Nissan Maxima should have front end damage.

The driver also may have had a passenger inside his car.
