EDGEWOOD, Md. - Investigators in Harford County have identified a man found dead inside of his apartment, and they're confirming he was murdered.
The body of 51-year-old Robert Wesley Johns was found inside of his apartment in the 1700 block of Fountain Rock Way in Edgewood on Sunday morning.
"He helps my kids sometimes when they're outside; he plays with them; he's always watering his flowers and he'd spray our kids' feet when he's out there," said Jennifer Beeghley, who lives around the corner.
On Sunday morning the Harford County Sheriff's Office got a call asking for deputies to check on Johns.
When they arrived they saw the television was on but no one came to the door. They noticed blood on the door, then looked through a window and saw Johns' body on the floor, so they went inside.
"The house was in disarray. They described it as sort of a ransacked appearance, and that gave them the idea that somebody had been in the house obviously looking for something, moving items about," said Ed Hopkins, a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the murder is related to another service call at Johns' address about nine hours before his body was found.
Deputies had been called around midnight for a report of a loud disturbance, but they didn't find anything so they left. "We also have to look at whether there is any connection between that call and the call this morning," Hopkins said.
Neighbors say they're concerned that whoever killed Johns is still out there.
"He was just a very nice guy. It's unfortunate. Very unfortunate," Beeghley said.
Robert Johns' body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
