EDGEWOOD, Md. (WMAR) - A former Baltimore City Public School employee is facing charges for raping a 15-year-old student.
According to charging documents in Harford County, 27-year-old Shawn Edward Nowlin of the 1400 block of St. Christopher Court in Edgewood is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl and getting her pregnant.
Nowlin told police that he worked as a Behavioral Therapist with the Baltimore City Public School system, and he was the Vice Principal at Hazelwood Elementary Middle School.
ABC2 News has learned that Nowlin was never the Vice Principal at Hazelwood, but worked there as a contractor for a year.
Nowlin had legal guardianship over the 15-year-old through her mother. He acted as the student's mental health therapist.
Charging documents also reveal that Nowlin admitted to having sex with the teen and offered to assist with securing an abortion.
During a recorded phone call with the victim, Nowlin stated that he "should have been smarter" and that he "let his emotions take over," when the victim asked about never using a form of birth control.
Documents revealed that when the victim confronted Nowlin about having sex with a minor, he responded by saying "it was never about the age" with her.
Nowlin is charged with second degree rape, sex abuse with a minor, and second degree assault.
No date has been set for his first court appearance.
