Harford County traffic stop ends in crash

BALTIMORE, Md. - An unidentified motorist could be facing charges after he fled a traffic stop by a Harford County Sheriff's deputy Thursday afternoon and crashed into a telephone pole.

According to a Sheriff's Department spokesperson, a deputy initiated a traffic stop Thursday at about 3;30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Whiteford Road, near a library.  When the deputy approached the car, the driver took off on Route 136 towards Route 165.  The vehicle crashed into a telephone pole less than 0.2 miles away from the point it drove away from the approaching deputy.

It is not classified as a pursuit, as the driver of the vehicle crashed before the deputy could get back into his vehicle to pursue.

The driver could also face charges for fleeing the stop.
